BernieCrats.com is a political education and movement-building project, not a campaign and not a business. It exists to make it easy to find out who is running on a genuinely progressive platform, what they actually stand for, and where the movement's energy is going — all in one place, without a paywall and without a donor telling us what to say.
It is also, at this stage, mostly the work of one person. That is the main thing we would like to change.
The site is hand-built — a Python generator, a JSON data layer, and static HTML. It works, but it could do much more: a searchable candidate database, live race tracking, better accessibility, a real CMS so non-technical contributors can add profiles. If you write code and want your skills pointed at something other than an ad-tech startup, there is plenty here.
We want this to be more than a reference site. Organizers who know how to turn attention into action — voter registration drives, canvass recruitment, ballot-deadline campaigns, coalition-building between the races profiled here — can help make it a tool rather than an encyclopedia.
Every profile on this site needs a human editor. Beyond that: race analysis, explainers on Medicare for All or the Green New Deal, interviews with candidates and organizers, and coverage of the down-ballot races nobody else is writing about.
The birdie illustrations are the visual signature of this project, and we want them drawn by human hands. We are also looking for poster art, social graphics, and anyone who wants to work in the WPA tradition the site is built on — bold, public, made for the movement.
Video, audio, short-form social. The people in Left Media proved that audience-funded political media works. There is room for more of it, especially aimed at the down-ballot races and state-level fights that get no national coverage.
Accuracy is the whole credibility of a site like this. Voting records, campaign finance filings, endorsement verification, and keeping profiles current as primaries resolve and candidates drop out — this is unglamorous and completely essential.
A note on how this site was built. AI tools did a great deal of the early work here — drafting profiles, generating the illustrations, writing the code that turns a data file into thirty-five pages. That was the right call to get a project like this off the ground quickly and cheaply, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
But a political education project should be made by people. Movement media that is written and drawn by human beings is better, more trustworthy, and more accountable than anything a model produces — and the process of making it together is itself a form of organizing. So we are deliberately moving away from AI-generated images and copy, and toward collaboration with writers, artists, and researchers who want to build this thing properly.

The site has no advertising, no corporate sponsor, and no PAC behind it. Running costs are modest — hosting, a domain, and eventually paying the writers and artists who contribute rather than asking them to work for exposure. That last part is the goal we are building toward.
