Sam Seder began The Majority Report in March 2004 on the Air America Radio network, originally co-hosting with the comedian Janeane Garofalo, who had been asked to host and suggested Seder join her. An actor and comedian by training, he brought a comic sensibility to daily political radio that has defined the program ever since.

Air America collapsed, but the show did not. Seder relaunched The Majority Report in November 2010 as an independent, listener-funded podcast — years before that model was obvious — and has published every weekday since. It is among the longest-running programs in progressive media, with more than two decades of daily archives.

The show pairs long-form author and expert interviews with live call-ins, news breakdowns, and running arguments with the right. Seder's willingness to debate essentially anyone gave rise to the 'Debate Sam Seder' meme, and to a body of interviews that function as a running record of American left politics since the Bush administration.

The Majority Report has also been an incubator. The late Michael Brooks co-hosted from 2012 until his death in 2020. Emma Vigeland joined in 2020 and now co-hosts. Matt Lech, Matt Binder, Brandon Sutton, and Bryan Vokey round out a crew that has spun off several independent shows of its own.

Twenty-Two Years of The Majority Report

The Majority Report has covered every phase of the movement this site documents — from the pre-Occupy wilderness through both Sanders presidential campaigns to the Democratic socialist wins of 2026. Its daily format and archive make it something close to an institutional memory for the American left.

Recent programs have tracked the Michigan Senate primary in detail, including the tens of millions in outside spending behind attack ads targeting Abdul El-Sayed, alongside interviews with figures like Democracy Now!'s Amy Goodman and Court Accountability's Alex Aronson.

The show remains funded by its audience rather than advertisers or a network, which is why it survived Air America's collapse and why it has never had to soften a position for a sponsor.
